The evening will feature a performance by classically trained as well as rock musicians of his 25 madrigals that were recorded at Columbia Records in 1971. Southpaw is located at 125 Fifth Avenue in Park Slope. Tickets are $10. Proceeds will benefit Eupraxia, a local music and arts collective with various programs through the country serving local communities through musical performance. The 25 madrigals is in fact the first book of Moondog's Round the World in Sound. The often complex and catchy rounds begin and end in C major, going through all the keys in-between and is scored for a variety of acoustic instruments and vocals. Many artists including Big Brother and the Holding Company, Lovechild, and Motorpsycho have attempted to perform and record these rounds in the past but all have changed the music to make them easier. The Eupraxia Players made history by performing all 25 rounds as originally scored at an arts festival in Olympia, Washington in April 2008 and will be bringing that same performance to Brooklyn next month. Eupraxia produced the first festival of Moondog's works in over forty years in New York in November 2007 and we did it again last year in Olympia and we will continue to do so as we preserve this amazing composers legacy, comments Eupraxia Director and Musician, Robin Boomer. Moondog Rising is an ongoing exploration and celebration of blind composer Louis 'Moondog' Hardin (1916-1999). Hardin arrived on the music scene the late '40s when his music was first played by the New York Philharmonic at Carnegie Hall. His unique, melodic compositions were released earlier n the Prestige jazz label and in the late '60s the Viking-garbed artist became something a pop sensation on Columbia Records. The last decades of his life saw his evolution as a master composer for European orchestras.
